ProcyonHook

- What is ProcyonHook?

A client-side download that integrates directly with your copy of Freelancer and delivers new features, extended functionality, and enhanced graphics to your Freelancer experience while playing on the 24/7 Procyon Dedicated server. ProcyonHook is not a mod - you will find no capital ships, no TIE Fighters, no nuclear weapons, no beam cannons, nor any other such nonsense. What you will find is the best possible vanilla Freelancer experience available.

- Graphical Improvements

We've cranked up the game's draw distances for objects and special effects, and have added dynamic lighting to ship headlights, muzzle flashes, and projectile impacts. We've improved the look of the game's various nebulae, restored model animations to certain ships, and added improved texture filtering.

Concerned about the new visuals having a negative impact on your framerate? Don't be - all options are fully configurable through the use of a setup program included with ProcyonHook that allows you to pick and choose which graphical elements you want enabled.

- In-Game Clan Management and Chat

Working in conjunction with with our own heavily rewritten and reengineered version of FLHook, ProcyonHook features in-game clan management through the /clan command, and the addition of an entirely new chat channel for clan members, allowing for members of a clan to stay in private communication without the need for constant group invites, as well as through the duration of the game's random missions.

- Clan Bases

Procyon offers unique clan base functionality that enables registered clans that own one or more systems on the server to purchase a private base for their clan. Clan bases can only be docked upon by members of the clan that owns them, or by allies of that clan. While ProcyonHook is not required in order to see and interact with these new bases in space, it is required in order to dock with them.

In addition to clan bases, clans are also able to purchase other upgrades for their system - weapon platforms that automatically attack hostile clans, mining ships that provide additional income, and more.

- Dynamic In-Game News

Server and community news delivered straight into the game's planet and station news boards? Updated automatically in-game as new articles become available? Yeah, we've got that.

- Unlocked Systems, additional ships

We've also allowed travel to Omicron Minor and Major, where one is able to purchase a cloaking-enabled Anubis and other assorted equipment at the Toledo base. Meanwhile, Alaska has been unlocked and given a facelift, making it a system worth visiting... in addition, Juni's Defender - now dubbed the Guardian - is available in Alaska on Juneau. Make no mistake however - you won't find the level ten death machines capable of mounting fifty nomad cannons that you'll find on other servers; these are the original ships, in all of their mediocre glory - intended primarily as a small boon to roleplay oriented players, and those that are fond of flying lower level ships.

- Flawless, Balanced Cloaking

Many Freelancer mods support cloaking - but not like this. Our cloaking device - outfitted on the Anubis fighter that can be purchased in Omicron Minor on Planet Toledo is controlled via a hotkey that is set in the control options menu (like any other standard in-game control) - when activated and fully charged, it disables your weapons and shields, and consumes weapon energy, which, when depleted, causes the ship to decloak.

- Widescreen Support

A great many of the widescreen mods currently available are configured in such a way that the changes they make to a player's field of view are downright absurd - in some cases to the point that they can almost be considered cheats themselves. ProcyonHook now addresses this issue by enforcing proper widescreen settings, and further improves upon existing widescreen mods by making every widescreen resolution supported by your monitor selectable from Freelancer's in-game options menu - making manual editing of perfoptions.ini a thing of the past.

- Alternate Startup Packages

Most of us that have played Freelancer for a reasonably long time can agree that starting new characters with the exact same starting ship, location, and reputation can get fairly boring very quickly - ProcyonHook works to help mix things up a bit by allowing players the option to select one of several starting factions when creating a new character:

-Police
-Outcast
-Bounty Hunter
-Universal Shipping

- Cargo Requests

Ever feel the urge to play the role of a quasi-honorable pirate that does not shoot directly on sight? Or the role of a Police or Naval officer tasked with shutting down illegal trade? ProcyonHook enables users to send NPC style cargo demands to other players, by way of a new icon that becomes visible while scanning another player's cargo with a commodity item selected.

- Anticheat

ProcyonHook also acts as a client-side anti cheat solution, preventing players who are using it from editing exploitable game data. In addition to that, when you are using ProcyonHook, every other player connected to the server using it has their name highlighted on the player list in a delicious and vibrant orange - allowing those skilled players that are oft accused of cheating to step up and prove that their game is legit.

- Automatic Updates, Compatibility

ProcyonHook is an ongoing project, one that we intend to stick with and improve upon with new features and further improvements - updates that couldn't be any simpler due to the use of our automatic update system.

ProcyonHook is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, and will not impact gameplay on other servers, including those of which that use their own mods. ProcyonHook remains completely dormant and inactive when you are not connected to Procyon.

- Other Improvements

In addition to the above, ProcyonHook also provides a number of additional features: the complete removal of the ESRB warning dialog, an increase from a maximum of five profiles per account to eight, and the ability to switch between fullscreen and windowed modes by pressing alt and enter. We've also tripled the length of the chat box, cutting down the need to break your conversations up into bite-sized portions.
